Boynton Beach Lawyer Arrested for Faking Auto Theft Report
Jay Unger, a self-employed lawyer in Boynton Beach, Fla. has been arrested for filing a fake auto-theft report in Melbourne for two motorcycles and a rental trailer. He was charged with grand theft, filing a false police report and insurance fraud.
Brevard Sherriff’s Department investigators said Unger reported the theft six months ago and was reimbursed $59,000 by his insurance company. Investigators said Unger reported the motorcycles and rental trailer stolen from a Denny’s Restaurant parking lot in Melbourne.
Auto theft investigators determined that Unger actually took the vehicles and trailer to a repair shop in Northport, Fla. and left them. He then filed the insurance claims, officials said.
Investigators turned the information over to the Brevard State Attorney’s Office for review before issuing a warrant for his arrest.
Unger was arrested at his Palm Beach home and taken to the county jail there. According to officials he was held on $3,000 bond.
