Firemen Fight Blaze at Hurricane Wilma Miami-Dade County, Fla. Debris Site

November 23, 2005

A four-story high pile of Hurricane Wilma debris caught fire on Wednesday at a staging area on Dove Avenue in Miami Springs, Fla. According to NBC6-TV in Miami, the fire sent a huge plume of smoke into the air over Miami-Dade County.

The debris mainly consisted of trees and branches. Since the hurricane, crews have been hauling debris from residential areas to staging fields across South Florida.

Firefighters said a live power line may have sparked the blaze. Smoke could be seen from as far away as Dadeland. Miami-Dade fire crews were at the scene and had the fire under control. No homes or buildings were in danger.
