Ky. AG Issues Warning About Fake FEMA Inspector

Kentucky homeowners have received a warning from Attorney General Gregory D. Stumbo to watch out for individuals posing as inspectors from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Stumbo issued a news release which said that his office had received notification from the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management of an unidentified individual posing as a FEMA inspector. The person was reported for trying to gain entrance into a residence in Morgan County, Ky., following the recent winter storms.

However, since no federal disaster has been declared anywhere in Kentucky, no FEMA personnel would be conducting any inspections or interviews, the release said.

“It’s terrible, that someone would use a storm event as a means to rip people off or commit a crime,” Stumbo said. “It’s important for people to be aware that impostors may be out there using this scheme to gain entry into their homes in order to commit a crime.”

Stumbo added that home and business owners should always check credentials of individuals asking to inspect property and should report any suspicious persons to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office at (888) 432-9257.
