W. Va. WCC Employees Raise Money for UW, Troops
West Virginia’s Workers’ Compensation Commission last Friday turned over a check for more than $5,400 to local United Way officials, representing proceeds raised during the Commission’s Public Service Recognition Week celebration.
The check presentation took place during closing ceremonies of a Tailgate Picnic for employees outside the Commission’s headquarters at 4700 MacCorkle Ave. SE in Kanawha City. The festivities included a cookout, a parade and awards for a series of employee competitions.
The competitions included a bake-off, a chili cook-off, baby photo identification, most spirited person, most spirited floor or building, best float, and King and Queen – awarded to representatives of the area that raised the most money. Several areas designated specific charities within United Way for their donation.
Fund-raising activities during the week of Sept. 13-17 included internal raffles, food sales, “yard” sales and other contests.
“This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to all of our team for their dedication and hard work during the past year,” Executive Director Greg Burton said. “These events re-energized our entire Commission. There is a lot of creativity and enthusiasm here.”
