Oklahoma Opens Next Round of Grants for Fortified Roof Program
The Oklahoma Insurance Department is opening the next round of applications for the Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Grant Program on Monday, July 13, with grants awarded on a first come, first served basis. Homeowners can apply beginning at 12:00 p.m. CST at oid.ok.gov/okread.
The program offers grants of up to $10,000 to eligible homeowners to upgrade their roofs to the IBHS Fortified Roof – High and Wind designation. The designation protects homes against winds up of to 130 mph and wind-driven rain. Homeowners with upgraded roofs qualify for insurance premium discounts.
Oklahoma recently expanded the SOH Grants Program statewide following pilot programs in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa regions.
Oklahoma faces the highest nationwide rate of roofs impacted by hail. Over the past four years, approximately 50% of Oklahoma roofs were affected by severe hail, according to Verisk’s U.S. Roofing Realities Report 2025.
The SOH Grants Program was launched in early 2025 as an insurance industry-funded initiative to provide homeowners with assistance to mitigate against hail, wind and severe weather. So far the program has led to nearly 500 Fortified roofs.
