National Council of Insurance Legislators Adopts Louisiana Anti-Fraud Law as New Model

A Louisiana anti-fraud law will serve as the new national model for fighting insurance fraud.

The National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) has adopted Louisiana‘s amended insurance fraud law as its new national benchmark, the Louisiana Department of Insurance said.

Sponsored by Rep. Gabe Firment, the new NCOIL amendment intends to close loopholes and gives states stronger tools to hold scammers accountable by giving prosecutors and law enforcement agencies more flexibility in how to utilize their resources.

The NCOIL Insurance Fraud Model Act is based on Louisiana bills authored by Sen. Adam Bass and Rep. Jacob Braud.

Firment. “This amendment gives states a stronger, clearer tool to hold bad actors accountable, especially those who prey on homeowners after storms. It’s time to stop the scammers who are preventing premium relief for hardworking families.”
