Landmark Admin Reports Data Breach, Exposing 800,000 Users’ Information

Landmark Admin filed a notice of data breach last week after detecting suspicious activities on its system in May.

Landmark is a Texas-based company that provides third-party administrative solutions for life insurance carriers,

Approximately 800,000 users’ data were exposed in the breach. According to a filing with the Attorney General of Maine, an unauthorized party was able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names; addresses; Social Security numbers; drivers’ license numbers; state identification card numbers; passport numbers; bank account and routing numbers; medical information; health insurance policy numbers; dates of birth; and life and annuity policy information.

Landmark learned of the data breach on May 14, one day after it detected suspicious activity.

Upon discovery of this incident, Landmark said it immediately disconnected indicated systems and remote access to the network and promptly engaged a specialized third-party cybersecurity firm and IT personnel to assist with securing the environment.

Landmark said in the filing that the incident affected information from individuals who were were a producer, policyowner, insured, beneficiary, or payor of Liberty Bankers Insurance Group. LGIB subsidiaries include:

  • American Benefit Life Insurance Company
  • Liberty Bankers Life Insurance Company
  • Continental Mutual Insurance Company
  • Capitol Life Insurance Company
