Hamilton Reappointed as Texas Public Insurance Counsel
Melissa Hamilton has been reappointed as public counsel for the Texas Office of Public Insurance Counsel (OPIC), which represents insurance consumers in regulatory matters relating to insurance rates, rules and forms.
Hamilton has served as the public counsel since January 2018. Previously, she served as director of Governmental Relations for the Texas Department of Insurance.
Prior to TDI, Hamilton was staff counsel for Texas State Senator Glenn Hegar, and additionally served as a regulatory attorney for Nationwide Insurance Company, as staff attorney for The Justice Project, and as a Fair Trial Initiative Fellow at Texas Defender Service.
Hamilton received a Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M University and a Juris Doctor degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
This appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. If approved, her term would expire Feb. 1, 2023.
