No Fatalities Reported After Dallas Hit by Tornado

The City of Dallas said in a Twitter feed that no fatalities or serious injuries had been reported following a tornado that hit swept through northern part of the city on Sunday night causing widespread property damage, according to various media reports.

The tornado hit around 9 pm on Sunday night, forging a destructive path that was estimated to be 14 to 16 miles long, according to CoreLogic Weather Verification Services. The Washington Post reported the tornado lifted debris as high 20,000 feet into the air.

The Insurance Council of Texas said initial reports indicate more than 100 homes were damaged along with dozens of vehicles. ICT said insurers were already responding to calls from customers in the storm damaged area.

The National Weather Service said the tornado formed around 9 pm at Dallas’ Love Field. It is suspected that more than one tornado may have developed from the line of storms that passed through North Texas.

In addition to Dallas, the cities of Richardson, Garland, Sachse and Rowlett are also being surveyed for storm damage, the Dallas Morning News reported.

CoreLogic Weather Verification Services also confirmed there was large hail up to 2.5″ in North Dallas and up to 1.5″ south of Dallas.
