Texas Mutual Grants $100K to Houston Construction Trade Training Center
Workers’ compensation carrier Texas Mutual Insurance Co. has awarded a $100,000 grant to the nonprofit Construction Career Collaborative (C3) to strengthen the skilled craft workforce in the Greater Houston region.
C3 is a nonprofit alliance of owners, general contractors, specialty contractors, construction industry trade organizations and design professionals dedicated to the craft workforce in the Houston region.
The grant will fund several C3 efforts, including the accredited employer scholarship program, which works to identify small businesses and Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) businesses in construction. It will also fund scholarships to new and existing C3 accredited employers for training classes that cover OSHA safety, craft skills, jobsite leadership, crew leadership and more.
The grant will also help fund an annual C3 construction career fair with C3 accredited employers. Additionally, the nonprofit will work with local Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs to coordinate “signing days,” similar to college signing days, for students who commit to joining a commercial construction company before graduation
