Texas Windstorm Insurer Activates CAT Plan

With a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico and Tropical Depression Isaac located east of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and heading west, the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) has activated its CAT Plan, which allows it to start readying the resources needed to respond to policyholders should a storm make landfall.

TWIA is currently still writing coverage. However, the association cannot accept new or increased coverage applications on the day (beginning at 12:01 A.M.) or after a windstorm designated as a hurricane by the United States Weather Bureau is in the Gulf of Mexico or within the boundaries of 80 degrees west longitude and 20 degrees north latitude.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the tropical disturbance located off the coast near the border between Texas and Mexico is not expected to become a tropical depression. It will likely move onshore in South Texas later today, bringing heavy rainfall and gusty winds across northeastern Mexico and Texas.
