Citing Safety, Louisiana Transportation Agency Plans More Roundabouts
Louisiana’s transportation department has kicked off an ad campaign touting the safety benefits of the roundabout, those traffic circles that are cropping up more and more in the state.
The three-week safety campaign began Monday and runs through Oct. 28.
The Department of Transportation and Development says the one-way, circular intersections cut down on crashes by decreasing stop-and-go traffic, so it’s trying to education drivers on how to use them properly.
Louisiana only has 30 roundabouts, but the transportation department says another 100 have been proposed for intersections.
The safety campaign includes a 30-second public service announcement that will be airing on radio and TV stations around Louisiana. Information also will be posted on social media sites.
