Officials: 9 Tornadoes in Oklahoma, Arkansas Last Week

May 5, 2016

Meteorologists have identified tornado damage in Muskogee County nearly a week after a string of at least nine weak tornadoes across northeastern Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The Tulsa World reports that the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Greenleaf State Park, about three miles southeast of Braggs, on April 26.

Preliminary data shows that six tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma between Twin Oaks and Tulsa. Three more were recorded in Arkansas. Each of the tornadoes, except the most recent, produced winds between 86 and 110 miles per hour.

Meteorologist Pete Snyder says surveyors haven’t finished assessing possible tornado-damaged areas. He says meteorologists are having difficulty quantifying the storms’ damage and whether it came from tornadoes because of the breadth of these storms and their strong winds.
