4.2 Magnitude Quake Recorded in Northern Oklahoma

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook part of Grant County in northern Oklahoma on Jan. 27.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the 4.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded shortly before 10 a.m. about 13 miles south-southeast of Medford at a depth of about one mile

Earlier, a 3.8 magnitude temblor was recorded at 5:31 a.m. less than two miles south-southeast of Perry. The earthquake occurred at a depth of about two miles.

On the previous night, a 4.3 magnitude quake was recorded about three miles northeast of Medford. That quake occurred at a depth of about four miles.

No damage or injuries were reported following the quakes.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and damage is not likely in quakes below magnitude 4.0.
