3.7 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Central Oklahoma

A 3.7 magnitude earthquake has rattled the Guthrie area in central Oklahoma.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was recorded at 3:37 p.m. Sunday about two miles south-southwest of the Logan County city. The USGS says the temblor occurred at a depth of about two miles.

No damage or injuries was reported.

Oklahoma has experienced an uptick in earthquakes in recent years. Hundreds of central Oklahoma residents attended a public hearing in June to discuss whether the quakes are tied to oil and gas drilling.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and damage is not likely from quakes below magnitude 4.0.
