4.3 Magnitude Quake Among 4 Temblors Recorded in Oklahoma

December 15, 2014

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded four earthquakes in Oklahoma on Sunday, including one with a preliminary magnitude of 4.3.

No injuries or damage are reported as a result of the Sunday morning temblors.

The 4.3 magnitude quake was recorded at 3:14 a.m. about 13 miles northeast of Cherokee — about 100 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.

Other quakes include a magnitude 2.8 and a magnitude 3.1 that were both recorded shortly after 4 a.m. about one miles southeast of Pawnee. The third quake was magnitude 3.4 about 13 miles west of Perry recorded at 9:48 a.m.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and damage is not likely in earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.
