Texas Insurance Agent Sentenced to 4 Years for Premium Theft
A Houston-area insurance agent whose company included the word “integrity” in its name has been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing from about 40 clients.
A judge in Galveston sentenced Christopher Vernon Murphy in a plea agreement and ordered him to repay about $75,000. Investigators say Murphy pleaded guilty to theft in fraud cases since May 2010.
Prosecutor Robert Buss says Murphy operated a League City business called Integrity Insurance Agency. Buss says Murphy received payments for Texas windstorm insurance from his clients but kept the money instead of forwarding it along to the insurer.
