Police Say Louisiana Stolen Property Website Helping Owners
A new website launched last month by the Opelousas Police Department to help the rightful owners to recover their stolen property is producing results.
Police Chief Perry Gallow told The Daily World he personally returned the first item, a weed eater, to Diane Pellerin this week.
Gallow said she spotted her property on the website at www.opelousaspd.com and was able to provide information proving it was her missing item.
All the items on the website have been recovered through various police investigations.
Sgt. Jody White said police often recover stolen property during the course of their investigations, but can’t always locate the item’s rightful owners.
While happy to get the items back to their owners, White said the process will also help police bring the criminals to justice
