Bank Files Foreclosure Suit Against Arkansas Lieutenant Governor

A bank is suing to foreclose on the Springdale, Ark., home of Lt. Gov. Mark Darr, who says he didn’t realize how far behind he was on the payments.

Darr won the lieutenant governor’s post in 2010. He is a licensed insurance agent and owns The MAD Pizza Company in Rogers.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that Darr was being sued by Signature Bank of Arkansas over two loans on his $275,800 home.

The suit filed in Benton County claims Darr owes $256,074 on one loan and $29,771 on the other and that he is four monthly payments behind.

Darr issued a statement saying he’s not wealthy and that elected officials also feel the effects of the slow economy.

Darr says he’s planning to meet with his bank in hope of resolving the situation.

The lieutenant governor’s office is a part-time job and largely ceremonial in nature. After he was elected, Darr said he’d use the office as a counterweight to national and state Democrats, including Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe.
