Arkansas Supreme Court Hears Nursing Home Liability Case
Attorneys for an Arkansas nursing home and the man who runs it say they deserve a new trial in a case in which a jury ordered the nursing home to pay more than $5 million following the death of a woman whose estate says didn’t receive proper care.
Lawyers argued in front of the state Supreme Court on Feb. 16 in the case regarding Minnie Valentine’s 2005 death.
Valentine had a stroke in 2004 and wound up at a nursing home where attorneys say she suffered “significant injuries.” Brenda Williams, who represents Valentine’s estate, sued and a jury found in her favor.
Attorneys for the nursing home and another company asked for a new trial, but a lower court rejected their request. They’ve asked the Supreme Court to overturn that decision.
