Arkansas Residents Have Two Weeks to Seek Disaster Aid

The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services says residents in Franklin and Johnson counties who were affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding on May 24 have about two weeks left to file disaster unemployment claims.

Officials say the deadline to apply is Aug. 11.

President Barack Obama declared the two western Arkansas counties as federal disaster areas earlier this month.

The aid is for individuals who have temporarily lost jobs in these two counties because of the disaster and don’t qualify for regular unemployment benefits or emergency unemployment compensation benefit for the self-employed.

Workforce services officials say the claims can be filed at local offices in Fort Smith and Russellville.
