Insurance Lawsuit Settlement Sends $51M to Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Insurance Department is processing claims from a $51 million settlement of a lawsuit against an insurance company that went under.

The Oklahoman reports that money from the settlement will be sent to doctors and other providers that the health maintenance organization AmCare did business with.

The company operated in Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana, and went into receivership in 2003.

Years of court filings followed, ultimately resulting in the payment to the state.

The Insurance Department says it hasn’t received all the money yet but is already working to distribute it.

The agency says payments will range from $15 to more than $300,000.
