Fontenot Named Deputy Commissioner at Louisiana Insurance Department
Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon announced that Emma Fontenot has assumed the position of deputy commissioner of the Office of Health for the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI).
Fontenot most recently served as program manager at the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH). She was one of ten team leaders in the development of a Coordinated Care Network Request for Proposal, which is working to transform the current Medicaid fee-for-service program into a managed care program. At DHH, she was also responsible for the management of the Louisiana Health Insurance Premium Payment (LaHIPP) program and was instrumental in the implementation of the “Baby Bill.”
Fontenot previously served as an Insurance Compliance Specialist Examination manager for the insurance department, where she organized and controlled the activities of the Quality Management and Supplemental Health sections of the Office of Health. She also has worked in the LDI Office of Licensing and Market Compliance as well as the Licensing Division.
Fontenot rejoins the Department of Insurance following the resignation of Scott Kipper, who recently left the department to head up the Office of Group Benefits.
