Home Repairs Start on Defective Chinese Drywall in Louisiana

March 4, 2011

Repairs are beginning in Louisiana on the first home that contains defective drywall made by a major manufacturer.

The home to be repaired by Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin is in Covington. The repairs are slated to begin Thursday. KPT said that the home is part of a court-approved pilot program that is expected to remediate about 300 homes in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida at no cost to the homeowners.

Large quantities of defective Chinese-made drywall were imported during a past housing boom and after a string of Gulf Coast hurricanes five years ago.

The drywall has been linked to corrosion in thousands of homes, mostly in Florida, Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.
