Bill Would Add Oklahoma Small Businesses to Do Not Call List

Oklahoma House of Representatives Democratic Leader Danny Morgan, D-Prague, filed a bill that he says will help small businesses reduce costs by adding Oklahoma businesses to the state’s Do Not Call Registry.

Morgan’s bill, HB2050, proposes language to include businesses located in Oklahoma under the state’s Telemarketer Restriction Act.

“As a small business owner, I know that anytime someone calls your business, you have to react as though it could be your most important client on the other end,” Morgan said. “But if your day becomes filled with fielding calls from telemarketers, you might never get that call from your most important client.”

Morgan believes that extending the law will help small businesses in our state improve efficiency, and will decrease overhead by reducing equipment costs and employee hours spent fielding unwanted solicitations.

“Businesses don’t need to be getting in each other’s way with these calls. It’s a tough enough climate in some industries right now. Nuisance calls are still a nuisance if you’re picking up the phone at work, and that’s why I’m pushing for this law.”

The Telemarketer Restriction Act passed the legislature in 2002 and went into effect in 2003. Currently, this act protects Oklahoma residents from receiving unwanted business solicitations on their residential phones.
