Medicus Appoints Johnson as VP and Chief Financial Officer
Austin, Texas-based specialty physician liability insurer Medicus Insurance Company appointed Mark D. Johnson as vice president and chief financial officer, effective Oct. 13, 2008. Johnson succeeds Gerald Whelply, who resigned for personal reasons.
Prior to joining Medicus, Johnson served as interim CFO and director of Business Analysis for New Mexico workers’ compensation insurer New Mexico Mutual Group from 2001 through 2008. At New Mexico Mutual, Johnson’s responsibilities included financial analysis and planning, information technology development, and ratings agency relations. Over the course of his career at New Mexico Mutual, the company became profitable and earned an “A-” rating from A.M. Best.
Johnson also has served as president of Eclipse Financial Resources. He began his insurance career as a staff accountant for Republic Western Insurance Company.
