Texas Raises Work Comp Payroll Requirement for Seasonal Workers

The Texas Department of Insurance Division of Workers’ Compensation announced that the adjusted annual payroll requirement of an employer for the coverage of seasonal workers has increased to $48,833 from $46,423.

The increase is 5.3 percent and based on the inflation rate calculated by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. This gross payroll amount will be used in 2009 to apply against an agricultural employer’s 2008 gross payroll, and to determine whether a farm or ranch worker is covered by workers’ compensation.
