Texas Lawmakers to Review Ike Damage and State’s Response
Texas House of Representatives Speaker Tom Craddick has created a House Select Committee on Hurricane Ike Storm Devastation to the Texas Gulf Coast.
The committee will be charged with reviewing the state and local government response to the hurricane and identifying issues for the legislature to address to prepare for future natural disasters and their aftermath.
Representative Sylvester Turner of Houston will serve as committee chair and Representative John Davis, also of Houston, was named vice chair.
Also appointed to the committee were: Representatives Dennis Bonnen, Angleton; Joe Deshotel, Beaumont; Harold Dutton, Houston; Craig Eiland, Galveston; Mike Hamilton, Mauriceville; Patricia Harless, Spring; Dora Olivo, Rosenberg; Debbie Riddle, Tomball; Wayne Smith, Baytown; and Larry Taylor, Friendswood. In addition, there will be one public member, A.R. “Babe” Schwartz.
