Votes in La.’s Sept. 30 Election Certified
Ballots cast in Louisiana’s Sept. 30 elections for insurance commissioner and secretary of state were officially certified on Oct. 5, election officials said.
In the insurance race, incumbent Jim Donelon narrowly won outright with 50.1 percent of the vote, barely over the 50 percent needed to avoid a runoff election. Aides to his challenger, state Sen. James David Cain, said Cain would not contest the result.
Two state senators – Republican Jay Dardenne of Baton Rouge and Francis Heitmeier, a Democrat from New Orleans – meet in a Nov. 7 runoff for secretary of state.
The Sept. 30 election also included 13 constitutional amendments, plus local races around the state.
