La. DeAnne Henke Withdraws from Insurance Commissioner Race

GOP hopeful DeAnne Henke of Lafayette, has withdrawn her name from the race for Louisiana insurance commissioner.

Henke, an investment advisor, issued a statement Tuesday saying that she is withdrawing and is endorsing Sen. James David Cain, also a Republican candidate for the commissioner’s spot.

In addition to Cain, two other candidates remain on the ballot including incumbent Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon, who assumed the spot vacated earlier this year by former Commissioner Robert Wooley who resigned. The third candidate is Baton Rouge insurance agent S.B.A. Zaitoon, a Libertarian.

Although Henke’s name will appear on the Sept. 30th election ballot, any votes cast for her will not be counted, the secretary of state’s office confirmed.

Henke indicated that that insurance problems would persist if the vote were split between her and Cain, who echos the same position on most of the issues being discussed in the race.
