Texas Agent Group Announces Support for Governor’s Tax Plan
The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas, representing nearly 1,800 independent insurance agencies statewide, announced it has endorsed the Perry-Sharp tax relief and school finance plan. Tax reform and school financing is currently being debated in a special session of the Texas Legislature.
“IIAT clearly understands the pressing need for reform of the state’s public school financing and recognizes that while no tax plan will be satisfactory for all, the Perry-Sharp plan does produce as equitable a collection and distribution of tax revenues as is possible under current law,” said Randy Reynolds, IIAT president.
In endorsing the plan, IIAT joins a growing number of business and industry organizations in support of the Perry-Sharp tax plan.
Carrolton Insurance Agent and IIAT Board of Directors Member Douglas Hotchkiss, said, “As one agency that would get hit with perhaps a four-fold increase, I believe that we have no choice but to endorse the governor’s plan and support more equitable education funding in Texas. While it hurts, we want to be part of the solution, not the problem.”
