La. Commissioner Honored with Leadership Award
The Louisiana Health Care Alliance (LHCA) presented state Commissioner of Insurance Robert Wooley with their 2004 Leadership in Health Care Award for his commitment to improving the availability and affordability of health care in Louisiana.
The group’s president and CEO Butch Passman said many of his colleagues across the country say they don’t have as good a working relationship with their insurance regulator as he does with Commissioner Wooley and the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Passman praised the commissioner and his staff for their willingness to tackle difficult health care issues.
Passman noted that the department was instrumental in the creation of the LaCHOICE health care program for small business employees, in partnership with the Department of Health and Hospitals.
Commissioner Wooley told the LHCA that his agency acts not only as the “insurance police” to protect consumers but also as a resource for the insurance industry.
Wooley added that the Department of Insurance is very open to suggestions from the industry and consumers alike. “I like to listen to all sides before developing a solution to problems. We’re proactive at the Department of Insurance. We aren’t afraid to try different ideas in order to come up with solutions to complex problems,” Wooley said.
