Okla. Agents May Now Renew Licenses Online

Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher reported that insurance agents are now able to renew their licenses online via the Oklahoma Insurance Department Web site. Until the service was made available, insurance agents were required to renew their licenses in person or through the mail.

“We’re very excited to be able to offer this new service to the public,” Fisher said. “Not only is this the completion of a long term goal of ours, but the public expects to be able to conduct more and more business with the convenience of the Internet.”

The OID said the department is one of the first in the nation to offer license renewal options through the Web. In addition to renewing licenses, agents can check their continuing education hours on the site.

Initial licensing must still be done in person, in part because of education and testing requirements provided for by law. The cost of renewing a license via the Internet is slightly more than in person—about four percent. The statutory fee for renewals is $60 and the fee for using the Internet is $2.40.

“By law we must collect $60 for each renewal, but the additional fee is small compared to the convenience of being able to renew a license over an office computer, or even at home after hours,” Fisher said.
