Texas Mobile Home Claims Rise after Flooding
Foremost Insurance Co., a Michigan-based insurer providing mobile home coverage, announced a gradual increase in claims in the wake of recent flooding in Texas.
A.M. Best reports that the company has so far received 270 claims for flood damage to mobile homes; as floodwaters recede further and more people return to their homes, more claims are expected.
Homeowners policies cover damages from wind-driven rain through openings or fissures caused by storms, while federal flood insurance policies cover damages from rising waters, according to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI).
TDI has opened disaster recovery centers in San Antonio, Seguin, Kerrville, and Bandera.
Texas counties so far declared disaster areas include Atascosta, Bandera, Bexar, Blanco, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall, Kerr, Brown, Caldwell, Eastland, Frio, Goliad, Gonzales, Karnes, La Salle, Real, Medina, Travis, Uvalde, Taylor and Wilson.
