People Moves: AIG Names Hussain CRO for Retiring Schaper

American International Group (AIG) said Turab Hussain was appointed executive vice president and chief risk officer of AIG, effective Oct. 12.

Hussain will report to Eric Andersen, president & CEOr, AIG and will serve on AIG’s Executive Leadership Team. He will continue to be based at AIG’s New York headquarters.

Hussain succeeds Christopher Schaper as CRO. Schaper informed the company that he intends to retire from AIG at the end of this year.

Since 2023, Hussain has served as AIG’s global chief actuary. He joined AIG in 2021 as CRO for General Insurance. Prior to AIG, Hussain was chief risk & actuarial officer at PartnerRe and chief insurance risk officer at The Hartford.

Schaper joined AIG in 2019 as CEO of AIG Re. He was global CUO from November 2023 to January 2025 and CRO since January 2025. He also served as a member of AIG’s Executive Leadership Team.

AIG also announced the appointment of Graham Fulcher to global chief actuary, succeeding Hussain, effective Oct. 12. Fulcher will report to Hussain and will be based in London. Fulcher joined AIG in 2022 as chief actuary, International Commercial Insurance.
