Starbucks Restores Scheduling App Taken Down by Hack to Vendor

Starbucks Corp.’s system for logging employee hours is back online nearly three weeks after a vendor hack had forced the company to keep track of schedules by hand.

Starbucks worked with third-party software supplier Blue Yonder Group, which was hit on Nov. 21 by a ransomware attack, to restore access to the system, a spokesperson for the coffee chain said.

The hack had taken down the app that Starbucks’ hourly store employees use to see when they’re working, and to clock in and out.

Starbucks had resorted to paying crew members for scheduled hours, resulting in some getting compensated too much or too little if they’d picked up shifts or taken vacation time that hadn’t been entered into the system.

Starbucks will review workers’ pay over the period in the next few weeks to ensure they were paid properly, the spokesperson said.
