Sloop to Take Over for Drinkwater as Amwins President

December 10, 2024

Ben Sloop is set to take over as president of Amwins Group at the start of 2025, the wholesale brokerage said.

Sloop succeeds James Drinkwater, who has been with Amwins since 2004 and has served as president since 2018. He will become vice chair of Amwins and remain active as executive chairman of Amwins Global Risks, focusing on retail client and carrier relationships.

Amwins said Sloop will retain his role as group chief operating officer. He was also president of Amwins Access. As president and COO, Sloop will continue focusing on mergers and acquisitions, operational excellence, innovation, and technology, with a particular focus on the integration of data and analytics to improve client and market outcomes, Amwins said.

“Ben has been a key contributor to the success of Amwins, and his deep market insights have continually driven the company into new areas of opportunity. His leadership has been instrumental in helping us differentiate ourselves in the marketplace,” said Scott Purviance, CEO of Amwins.

Though he’ll remain involved with Amwins in an advisory role, Drinkwater said his 20 years at Amwins was the “highlight” of his career. “It’s been an incredibly exciting journey, and I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved as a company, from our explosive growth to the strong culture we’ve built. I look forward to continuing to support our colleagues as we continue to grow and evolve,” he added.
