Torrance in, Fouché Out as Fireman’s Fund President and CEO
Andrew Torrance has been named the new president and chief executive officer of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co., succeeding Lori Fouché who left for Prudential Financial Inc.
Torrance, Fireman’s Fund’s fifth executive at the helm since 2007, is expected to assume his new role later this summer. His appointment is subject to approval of the joined Novato, Calif.-based company’s board of directors.
Torrance has more than 30 years of experience in insurance. He most recently served as CEO of Allianz UK. Prior to being appointed CEO in 2003, he was the director and head of the Allianz broker division. Torrance also held senior and Board positions at consulting firms and insurers, including London & Edinburgh and Boston Consulting Group.
Torrance holds a degree in theoretical physics from the University of Cambridge and a master’s degree from the London Business School.
Fouché succeeded Michael LaRocco in July 2011, who the company said left to pursue other professional opportunities. Fouché started with Fireman’s Fund in February 2006 and before being named president and CEO, she was president of Fireman’s Fund commercial insurance. Previously, she was chief operating officer for Fireman’s Fund’s specialty business.
Prior to Fireman’s Fund, Fouché was senior vice president, private company product manager at Chubb & Son and also served as a management consultant at The Parthenon Group.
Fireman’s Fund spokeswoman Suzanne Meraz said the leadership change doesn’t alter the company’s direction.
“The transition in leadership will not affect the positive momentum and progress that FIreman’s Fund began last year,” Meraz said. “Our vision and strategies will remain the same.”
Fireman’s Fund is celebrating its 150th anniversary. As head of the company, Fouché was leading that celebration. The celebration includes a traveling exhibit of historic items from Fireman’s Fund’s long history, which is making several stops around the country to showcase items or particular interest to each area.
Fireman’s Fund is a member of the Allianz Group.
