Insurance Expert to Testify at Hearing on Oil Spill Liability Today
Dr. Robert Hartwig, an economist and president of the Insurance Information Institute, will testify today at a hearing before the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, U.S. House of Representatives, in Washington, D.C.
The hearing will focus on liability and financial responsibility for oil spills under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and related statutes in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Oil and other pollution of navigable waters, including inland, coastal and ocean waters are under the purview of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
The hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at 2167 Rayburn House Office Building. There will also be a live webcast.
