Senate Passes Flood Insurance Extension; No House Vote Yet

The U.S. Senate has passed a measure to extend the federal flood insurance program until Dec. 31, 2010.

The Senate-approved extension is a provision in a bill, American Workers, State, and Business Relief Act of 2010 (H.R. 4213), which extends certain tax breaks to businesses and individuals. The bill passed 62 to 36.

The extension will be considered to have taken effect Feb. 28, according to the Senate bill.

The House, tied up with healthcare reform, has not yet taken up the legislation.

The National Flood Insurance Program is scheduled to expire on March 28 unless Congress approves an extension.
