Darwin Launches New Clinical Research Liability Product, Team
Farmington, Conn.-based specialty insurer Darwin Professional Underwriters, Inc. is now making available a new specialty liability coverage with the addition of clinical research liability insurance (CRLI). Darwin developed this insurance product to address the evolving needs of health care organizations, business entities, academic institutions, and individual professionals engaged in clinical research and human subject-related professional activities.
The product offers exclusive features to this group of professional entities and individuals who make up an emerging and rapidly growing segment of the health care market. These features include clinical research professional liability coverage, including errors and omissions (E&O) and medical malpractice, administrative and regulatory defense coverage, billing- related proceedings coverage, public relations consultation coverage, and worldwide coverage through a flexible program that can be customized to meet the unique needs of each individual client. Darwin offers standard primary limits of $1/$3 million, with limits as high as $10 million.
Darwin has hired Gary Leavy, an industry expert, with over a decade of experience in the clinical research field as lead underwriter for CRLI.
The firm has also engaged Walter Killian, Esq., principal of Research Risk Consultants, who has 25 years’ experience representing health care providers and insurers. Killian is former in-house counsel at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
CRLI is available in all states on a surplus-lines basis through Darwin Select Insurance Co. which carries an A.M. Best rating of “A- (Excellent).”
