Travelers Offers Hybrid Owners 10% Auto Discount

Travelers personal lines, a member of St. Paul Travelers, now offers hybrid-driving Americans a 10 percent discount on auto insurance. Travelers made the discount available in 27 states with plans to roll it out in most remaining states in the coming months. The discount of up to 10 percent applies only to certain coverages and may not be available in all states.

Travelers is one of the first auto insurance companies to begin implementing a discount for hybrid owners nationally. The discount is available in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin.

In addition to the insurance discount, hybrid drivers can benefit from the federal tax credit for alternative energy vehicles ranging from $250 to $3,400, depending on the model. Additional tax benefits are also available in many states.

“As we roll out the 10 percent discount on insurance for hybrid vehicles to the first 27 states, I’d like to invite hybrid drivers and those contemplating the purchase of a hybrid to visit hybridtravelers.com, a Web site created with them in mind,” said Greg Toczydlowski, senior vice president of product management at Travelers. “We have a wealth of information about insuring a hybrid, including the latest hybrid news and resources on tax incentives for hybrid drivers.”

For fun, hybridtravelers.com features the Early Adopt-o-meter, which ranks visitors’ penchants for embracing new technologies. The site also invites hybrid drivers from around the country to share their stories, pictures and playlists from the road with a growing hybrid community. The first 100 visitors whose submissions are accepted for display on the Web site will receive a $15 iTunes gift card. Visitors can also access an agent locator and obtain policy information.

The Hybrid Travelers sweepstakes grand prize getaway vacation features a four-day/three-night stay for two at the Enchantment Resort and Spa in Sedona, Ariz., including round-trip air transportation, insurance, daily breakfast and car rental.
