CPCU Society Names 2004-2005 Officers, Governors

The CPCU Society’s has announced its new officers and governors, to be effective Oct. 27, 2004, following the 60th Annual Meeting and Seminars in Los Angeles, Oct. 23-26.

The following CPCU Society officers and governors have been officially elected:

CPCU Society National Vice President: Betsey L. Brewer, CPCU, senior vice president of The Rule Company in Pasadena, Calif. Brewer will serve a one-year term as vice president, after which she will automatically move into the positions of president-elect, president, and immediate past president. A member and past president of the Society’s Los Angeles Chapter, Brewer is currently serving as a member of the chapter’s Board of Directors. Nationally, she has served as a CPCU Society governor from 1998 to 2002, and as a third-year governor on the Executive Committee. Brewer has also served on a number of Society task forces and chapter committees.

The following Governors, who will serve a three-year term, are:

Paula Banks, CPCU, a client manager at The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Syracuse, N.Y. Since receiving her designation in 1984, Banks has been a member of the Syracuse Chapter Board and a chairman of the Society’s Good Works Committee.

Ron Boggs, CPCU, an executive vice president of First Nonprofit Insurance Company in Chicago, Ill. Boggs earned his CPCU designation in 1974 and has served the Chicago Chapter as 1989-1990 president. On the national level, Boggs is currently serving as a member of the Society’s Agent & Broker Section Committee.

Joe Dillon, CPCU, a senior vice president and chief underwriting officer, Commercial Insurance Division, for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies in Novato, Caliif. A CPCU since 1977, Dillon is a past president of the Golden Gate Chapter, and a current member and past chairman of the Society’s Excess/Surplus/Specialty Lines Section Committee.

James Franz, CPCU, a P&C manager with United Farm Family Mutual Insurance Company in Fort Wayne, Ind. An active member of the CPCU Society since 1984, Franz is a member and past president of the Northern Indiana Chapter.

Judy Frey, CPCU, a claims adjuster for the Erie Insurance Group in Dushore, Penn. A CPCU since 1995, Frey has held the positions of secretary, vice president, and president of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter. Currently, she is a member of the Society’s Personal Lines Section Committee.

Jill Gidge, CPCU, CIC, CPIW, a president of Insure-Ed in Nashua, N.H. A CPCU since 2000, Gidge has served as president of the New Hampshire Chapter since 2002.

Doug Holtz, CPCU, CIC, CRM, CSP, a commercial underwriting manager of Harleysville Insurance. An active member of the CPCU Society since 1988, Holtz has served the Central Indiana Chapter as its president, vice president, and secretary. He is also a member of the Society’s Information Technology Section Committee.

Mary King, CPCU, a branch manager of Burns and Wilcox Ltd., and has been a member of the CPCU Society since 1982. She has held leadership positions in the Los Angeles, Orange Empire, and Georgia chapters, and is currently president of the Los Angeles Chapter—host of the Society’s 60th Annual Meeting and Seminars.

David Lewis, J.D., CPCU, a second vice president of Employers Reinsurance Group in Overland Park, Kan. Lewis has been a CPCU since 1990 and has served the Kansas City Chapter as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, education committee chairman, and public relations chairman.

Glen Schmidt, CPCU, CLU, a business analyst for State Farm Group in Bloomington, Ill. Since earning his designation in 1969, Schmidt has served the Central Illinois Chapter as chairman of its Candidate Recruitment & Development Committee and as a member of numerous other committees. He is a member and past chairman of the Society’s Total Quality Section Committee and past chairman of the Candidate Recruitment & Development Committee.

Joyce Valley, CPCU, a director of marketing research for NCCI Holdings in Boca Raton, Fla. A CPCU since 1992, Valley has served the Florida Gold Coast Chapter as president and communications officer/secretary.

The CPCU Society’s incoming president, Don Hurzeler, CPCU, CLU, has made the first of two at-large Governor appointments. Kathleen A. Murray, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, accepted the year-long appointment. She is Leader of Infrastructure, PricewaterhouseCoopers, in New York City. Prior to PWC, Murray worked for Aetna Life and Casualty for more than 20 years. Hurzeler will announce a second appointment before the Los Angeles Annual Meeting.
