AIA Chooses Top Gephardt Aide to be VP, Federal Affairs
The American Insurance Association (AIA) has appointed Moses Mercado, deputy chief of staff to former House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt, as vice president, federal affairs.
Mercado becomes a key player in AIA’s federal affairs department, which advocates AIA member company public policy positions to Congress, as well as to the federal executive and judicial branches.
“Moses brings with him a wealth of experience, talent, and a keen understanding of how things work on Capitol Hill. We are very pleased to add him to our team,” Leigh Ann Pusey, AIA senior vice president, federal affairs, commented.
Mercado was a top aide to Gephardt for five years, also serving as senior policy adviser and as the Missouri Democrat’s chief adviser on Latino issues. Previously, Mercado worked as chief of staff for Rep. Gene Green (D-TX); as an assistant attorney general in Texas; and for the Travis County (TX) Sheriff’s Department.
