National Consumer Education Foundation Elects
Peter van Aartrijk Jr., CIC, a 20-year veteran of insurance industry communications, has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the National Consumer Education Foundation.
The NCEF supports communication efforts to improve consumer awareness and understanding of insurance and other financial services issues. A major focus is supporting a nationally syndicated, weekly radio program designed to educate consumer on financial services issues; the program is hosted by NCEF President William E. Bailey, CPCU, J.D. The program, “It’s Your Money,” is carried live on 700 stations in most metropolitan areas of the U.S.
The NCEF Board also elected two new members: Paul Barrios, president of the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies, and president of Cloverleaf Insurance Brokers, Miami; Edward S. Rice, Jr., president and CEO of Sable Insurance Co., San Francisco.
Having spent much of his career educating insurance consumers via the national media, van Aartrijk is CEO and managing director of The van Aartrijk Group LLC, a Springfield, Va.-based insurance branding and marketing communications firm. He is former vice president of communications of the Independent Insurance Agents of America, Alexandria, Va.; and former director of press relations of the Insurance Information Institute, New York.
