Bush To Propose Nursing Home Bill

Presidential candidate George W. Bush will unveil today a proposal to offer tax incentives to buy insurance for nursing home care and financial relief for people who care for a parent or elderly person at home. The idea was fueled by statistics showing that half of older women and one-third of older men are likely to need nursing home care.

Meanwhile, Democratic contender Al Gore is supporting the Clinton administration’s proposal to offer a $1,000 tax credit to families caring for ill or disabled relatives while expanding Medicaid to cover in-home and community-based long-term care services. The plan is geared to keep people out of expensive nursing homes.
