Michigan DIFS Advocates for Careers in the Insurance Industry as Part of Careers Month
The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is highlighting in-demand jobs available to Michiganders in the insurance field as part of Insurance Careers Month.
More than 73,000 Michiganders work in the insurance industry, according to a study conducted by the Insurance Information Institute, with salaries totaling approximately $6 billion a year. The Insuring MI Future Coalition, a 501(c)3 created to raise awareness of insurance career opportunities in Michigan, finds that careers in the insurance industry tend to be stable and high paying, with an average salary of $60,000, substantially higher than the average of $45,000 for other industries.
“Michigan’s insurance industry continues to grow, offering a variety of well-paying career opportunities for individuals with diverse skill sets, educational backgrounds, and specializations,” said DIFS Director Anita Fox. “By working in the insurance industry, you can support Michiganders in some of life’s significant moments. You cannot buy a car, purchase a home, or start a family or a business without considering what kind of insurance you might need to protect your investment and peace of mind. Insurance Careers Month is a great time to explore how a career in the insurance industry can benefit you, your family, and your future.”
To fill new positions, companies in these industries need employees with a variety of educational backgrounds and skills, including:
- Computer programming
- Cybersecurity
- Marketing
- Communications
- Accounting
- Economics
- Management
- Human Resources
- Legal
- Actuarial
In addition to positions within Michigan’s insurance companies and agencies, DIFS is hiring for a variety of positions to help ensure that Michigan’s insurance and financial services sectors are safe, sound, and serve the needs of Michigan’s consumers.
