Vicki Schmidt Reelected as Kansas Insurance Commissioner
Republican Vicki Schmidt was reelected Kansas Insurance Commissioner Tuesday, defeating challenger Kiel Corkran, a Democrat, by a near 2-1 margin.
Schmidt led with 63.4% of the votes and more than 95% of precincts reporting.
Corkran ran as a Green Party-endorsed candidate. Corkran is a certified actuary who has worked as a paraeducator and a visual data analyst.
Schmidt was first elected commissioner during the 2018 cycle, defeating Democrat Nathaniel McLaughlin.
Schmidt’s term will run through 2026.
Schmidt began her career as a pharmacist before serving in the Kansas State Senate from 2005-2018.
