Nebraska Family Dollar Store Faces $302K in Fines for Workplace Hazards

Federal workplace safety officials have proposed $302,147 in penalties against a Family Dollar Store in Omaha, Nebraska.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited national discount retailer for safety violations after the company allowed equipment to block an exit route at the Omaha store.

OSHA issued four repeat and two serious safety citations after a December 2018 inspection found that the store failed to secure compressed gas cylinders, follow manufacturer’s instructions when using electrical apparatus, ensure emergency exit doors remain unlocked, and cover overhead lights.

OSHA announced the penalties on June 10. The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
