Michigan Says Man Was Selling Fake Auto Insurance in Parking Lot

The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) has told a man who the department says has been selling fake auto insurance in a parking lot after hours to stop.

The DIFS issued a Cease and Desist Order against Lovell Borom Jr. of Inkster, Mich., for selling fraudulent automobile insurance certificates.

Although Borom has been acting as an insurance agent, he is not licensed to solicit, sell or negotiate insurance in the state, insurance regulators say.

DIFS received a complaint alleging Borom was selling fraudulent insurance certificates after hours in an insurance agency parking lot. The DIFS alleges Borom has been “soliciting, selling and negotiating auto insurance in the parking lot of an LA Insurance Agency” in Taylor, Mich. A producer with the agency contacted DIFS to report the fraud.

Borom has no relationship with LA Insurance Agency.

The DIFS investigation found that Borom was advertising the availability of auto insurance on a social media page with his phone number listed. He was allegedly advertising the sale of 6-month term auto insurance and included on his social media page “several LA Insurance store front pictures.”

The C&D order was issued on July 19 and served on July 20, 2016.
